Through it all, I am growing more and more grateful for the little things that life presents. Like food! I successfully grew my garden with new-to-me varieties of vegetables like Corn and Haskap Berries. I foraged and dried new herbs like Mullein and Golden Rod for creating tinctures and skin salves. I even dried flavourful flowers, like Bergamot and Anise Hops to make my own garden teas!
As the year closes and a New Year turns its page, I am excited about what the future will bring... and excited about what I will bring to my future! I have big plans for my garden, namely to grow more edible flowers for my tea supply ( I am down to the last bits of my anise hops already!). I have big plans for my home. I have big plans for my photography business too!
For today, the day of New Year's Eve, my big plan is to clean my home to start off the New Year with a calm environment. My big plan is to journal my wishes for the upcoming year and put forth my intentions to the universe. My big plan is to celebrate with friends and family. And my big plan right now is to share my quick and delicious recipe with a festive twist. The original recipe calls for jalapeno peppers but I had left over fresh cranberries so..... Cranberry Cornbread is what I went with! Enjoy and feel free to share this post with everyone who loves food and enjoys simple but delicious recipes.

As an entrepreneur, my days are never alike. The days go by and I marvel at how much my life lacks routine!
On one day, I could wake up to a day full of emailing clients and inputting numbers into appropriate spreadsheets, filing paper receipts (am I the only one?) and creating marketing materials. The next day could be spent prepping and sanitizing the studio and creating little scenes, selecting blankets, backdrops, props and outfits for a Newborn Session. These mornings, I wake up smiling because I know I get to spend time with sweet (sleep-deprived but happy) families who are welcoming a piece of their heart into their world. And on other days, I am staring at my computer screen, editing every image and spending way too much time simultaneously scrolling through TikTok!
As a mother, the mornings I wake up with my children (my husband and I share the school-week wake up duties….. I will blog about it!), are also neither here nor there! I could eat breakfast with my kiddos or not eat until noon. Most mornings, I drink a green tea but some days I don't drink it until it's gone cold and sun is setting. I help pack lunches some days and help make breakfast other days. ALL days, I am the time-keeper!
And some days, like this morning, I start with an unrolled mat and spend 15-minutes to move my body before I plan to tackle my vegetable garden beds and wood stacking.
On these school days, I usually walk my children to the bus stop, but they are older now... So big, so smart, so sassy, so serious. So much for me to love! Well, the sassiness aside.
So, today I walked them. The next time, I may hang back so they can experience more autonomy… and responsibility.
My days, as a mother, a business owner, are so different one to the next and I wouldn’t change either role.
P.S. They had to run to catch their bus!

Things seem to be moving so quickly in today's world and we have all been through a lot. The noise of the news can get overwhelming and the daily grind can wear you down. I am fortunate to live and work in the Laurentians and so, I get to retreat to the nature in my surroundings to recover, restore my sanity and collect a few treasures along the way.
I have been wanting to make Dandelion "Honey" since I moved up north three years ago! I finally committed to it and, while it really is just a simple syrup, I was happy to go through the process, from picking the biggest flower heads I could find (while leaving plenty for the pollinators!) to pouring the sweet, sticky and lightly fragrant liquid into little jars.
En tant que photographe, j'aime photographier ce qui m'entoure et j'ai pensé que je pourrais aussi documenter mon expérience de fabrication de miel de pissenlit pour montrer à quel point c'est simple.
As a photographer, I am in love with photographing my surroundings and thought I might as well document my experiment in making Dandelion Honey to show how simple it really is.
The result is a feeling of accomplishment at using what nature provides to create a sweet treat for my family.
What are you waiting for? Go for a stroll and see if you can gather up some sunshine yellow dandelion flowers and try making your own dandelion honey!
The recipe I followed is at the link below. Happy flower hunting!
La recette que j'ai suivie se trouve sur le lien ci-dessous. Bonne chasse aux fleurs!

Check out that adorable side-eyed smile...
Mama wanted to make sure we captured all of his teeny tiny baby bits. I alway have my macro lens at the ready for these shots!
Little fingers and toes, sweet lips and lashes!
He looked so good in green. His little hand under his cheek... melted me!
Finally, Mama wanted a festive Holiday themed set-up and again, I aim to deliver! Pops of holiday red and green and a little reindeer lovey went into the first set up and then I went with this sweet posing chair set-up and dressed little man up as a cute brown bear looking full from snacking on milk and cookies!

While most moms-to-be are not feeling so photogenic, I make sure to tell them that it isn't their job to be 'photogenic'. It is my job to take amazing pictures of you because truly, there is no such thing as being photogenic. Being comfortable and allowing your natural smiles to shine is what brings out the beauty in a portrait and it's my job to get you there!
I adore these dreamy, back-lit images. They are a beautiful couple and you can just feel the love they share...
How absolutely gorgeous are these two?

]]>Greys and Blues really suited him... don't you think?
Close-up macro shots and baby bits are such a sweet reminder of all his little details!
A few years later and this little guy joined the family... and the parents honoured me by travelling all the way from Montreal to Saint-Sauveur just to work with me again. I shed a grateful tear or two at this gesture.
Big and Little brothers, now and forever! Big brother was a real pro in caring for his newborn baby... melt my heart!
The blue wrap in use again... 3 years later!
Mom, Dad and Big Brother are over the moon happy with the new addition to their family and I am overjoyed that they chose me, again, to celebrate their family milestones!

Are you using an old high school image as your online profile picture?
Are you using a picture that isn't even you? Is your cat or dog representing you?
Don't hide behind out-of-date images or images that are not you! If you are wanting to connect and make an impression, you need an update.
You want to ensure that you are putting your best face forward and this means using an up-to-date, high-quality, professional portrait.
Lighting is the single most important factor in creating a stunning portrait. Unsightly shadows under the eyes can add years to your face and poor colour balance can make you look downright ill. Professional photographers know how to light their subjects to bring out the eyes with properly placed catch lights and adjust colour tones in camera and in post production to ensure the truest skin tones possible.
What is the purpose of your portrait? Are you an actor? Are you a realtor? What do you want your portrait to convey?
Your professional portrait should be a representation of what you are wanting to attract. By consulting with your photographer before your session about your needs and goals, you will go into your session confident that you will get the results you want. Making a list of keywords that describe your image, your brand and your goals will help your photographer in designing your look and directing you in the posing.
A professional portrait studio will have everything you need to capture your image perfectly. A variety of backdrops to suit your style, expert posing to highlight your best features and a confident photographer who will help you relax and take the pressure off during your session. While the "headshot" crop from top of head to just below the shoulders is great for a profile image, you may want additional, full-bodied images to use on your website. You may need in-action shots of you working at your craft or posing in your workspace. What ever the needs, discussing your requirements with your photographer will help you both plan out your session so that you leave knowing your images will be tailored exactly to your needs.
Ready to update your image? Click HERE to book your session and get your best look now.
This couple brought such a great and hopeful vibe to their maternity photoshoot and I am honoured that they chose me to create their forever memories of this amazing time in their lives.
Mama chose this gorgeous plum studio mama gown for her fist set up. Doesn't it look stunning against the dramatic black background?
If you aren't a model and fear looking stiff in photos, don't worry!
I constantly talk to my clients to help get them into a relaxed state and perfectly posed.
These two images below are my absolute faves rom the session. So stunning and full of drama.
The second set-up was shot against my white wall with gorgeous side lighting. This beautiful Boho gown is also available from the studio wardrobe.

]]>In the span of a single year, my family and I bought our first home and moved from the bustling metropolis of
Montreal to the little village of Gore, Quebec...
We've become tool-wielding renovators, soil-tilling gardeners and egg-collecting chicken-raisers.
We have weathered home-schooling, lock-downs and done waaaayyy too many dishes! In all the chaos we are feeling so grateful...knowing that time isn't standing still, we are all moving forward.
Throughout all this learning, growing and transitioning, I have relocated my business and my photography studio to the Laurentians to be closer to my home. Studio relocation is not new to me as I have had three previous spaces where I created many beautiful experiences and memories for my clients. This newest relocation was huge because it came after a long and uncertain pause.
The pandemic had me flip-flopping between closing my beloved business forever and pushing forward to prepare for the ultimate rebirth of my passion and joy. There were dark days... confusing fogs and paralyzing overwhelm that seemed to come with either option. With so much support from my family, many painful and tearful moments and I chose rebirth and so studio relocation became my goal.
I was beyond ready to get into my new space! In April of last year, I was forced to close my Montreal studio and had to place all my lovely, soft, cute and cuddly things in storage.... I was finally able to reunite with all of them again. Tanis Saucier Photography studio is now located in the village of Saint-Sauveur, in the heart of the action on Avenue de la Gare and is up and running again. Below are some images of the building that has become home to Tanis Saucier Photography.
My studio is accessible on the side of the building through those sweet, yellow doors!
While I haven't been able to do a grand opening event to celebrate this move, due to the pandemic, I will be providing my absolute best services to welcome clients, new and old! Of course, strict hygiene practices and COVID19 protocols are in effect to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all.
I specialize in Maternity, Newborn and Milestone studio sessions.

We are so fortunate to be living in the Laurentians, surrounded by the most spectacular Autumn display I have ever seen! Since I will be moving my photography studio up north, I thought I should scout out a location for my clients and I happened upon the perfect spot! So, with bribes in place (take-out AFTER the shoot!), I prepped my children and my husband and set out to Saint Sauveur to capture some images of us in all the Fall Glory!
These two... my heart explodes when I spy them being kind to each other! Siblings will argue, naturally, but when they think I am not looking they can be so sweet with one another. Knowing they will always have each other is a balm on my mother heart.
And then there is this guy....
My handsome husband, my best friend and partner in all things productive!
It was a bit chilly but with some encouragement (read threats of no dessert! lol) we got through a variety of images!
Silliness ensued...
Not a bad looking family if I do say so myself!

This gorgeous mama came to me for her maternity session with her partner. How adorable are they together?
Mama and Papa brought along some traditional clothing. Stunning! This baby will be able to see how proud her parents are of their heritage.
But then we switched gears and captured these stunning images below. I love how the dress hugs her maternal form!
We couldn't get through a maternity session without focussing solely on the mama. She is doing all the heavy lifting after all!
AFTER!
Little miss perfect arrived to the delight of her parents! A little sleep deprived but overjoyed with their new bundle of love! I couldn't wait to do her newborn portrait session and used all the style and elegance in my choice of props and accessories.
Macro baby bits are my favourite and are always optional in the full newborn sessions.
I adored her! I was ready and willing to keep her all to myself!
I feel so proud and honoured when I am hired to capture the 'before and after' of one of life's biggest moments.
Welcome to this side of parenting... you are doing great!
To reserve your spot on TSP calendar, get in touch well before baby's due date as space is limited.
Newborn sessions are best done within the first 2 weeks after birth.
Maternity sessions are best done between 32 and 36 weeks.

Well these two sweet sisters could not be any cuter! Am I right?
I had the pleasure of welcoming little 8-day old Madeline and her big sister Charlotte into the studio yesterday for her newborn portrait session. Charlotte was so helpful and wanted to be close to her sister much of the time! She is already embracing her new role and I think little Miss Madeline is already 'looking up' to her big sister!

She travelled all the way from the Laurentian's to visit me in my Montreal studio
and it was an absolute pleasure to photograph her and her parents!
One more of my favourite set-ups!
I will be editing the rest of her sweet gallery and can't wait to share it with Mom and Dad and the rest of her adoring family :)

We did a simple and sweet peach set-up... how adorable is that face?
Mama special-ordered these amazing little pink baby boxing gloves and matching boxer shorts just for the Milestone Baby Photo Session (You can visit the Etsy Store HERE!). The day of the session, the parents also brought in a few picture frames to incorporate into the "NICU Warrior" set-up but had forgotten the actual NICU pictures! Visibly disappointed, I suggested that we use the blank frame in the set-up and that they send me the digital image later. I promised I would do my best to work my Photoshop Magic and insert the image in the frame in post production. I am so pleased to have been able to add the special image in, so this little girl and everyone who sees this image will always know just how far she has come!
Her smile says it all...
We had to include some Family Poses during the session! What a gorgeous family and this little fighter knows just how loved she is.
Such contagious smiles!
We ended the session with a Strawberry Bath set-up.
Little Miss Warrior thoroughly enjoyed splashing until she was soaked!
Thank you for bringing your little warrior to my studio!

This little boy wanted to hang out with eyes wide open during his newborn photography session.
He did accommodate us with a few sleepy shots too :)
I have a variety of props and outfits, wraps and stuffies to help create the perfect scene for your little love.
Mama wanted to use my fox bonnet and stuffy and I think it suits him perfectly!
It is so important to capture the beginnings with the parents too! Although many parents (moms, I am talking mostly to you!) are not wanting to step in front of the camera after the birth of their child, I always convince them that these family memories will become priceless treasures in the years to come. Baby will want to see all the love that was felt for him right from the beginning!
Big sister also graced us with some sweet moments! The sibling bond is something that will only grow over time.
How adorable of a capture is this sibling image?
We did a few poses with the bonnet but with that gorgeous head of hair we had to do some without the bonnet!
A perfect little boy who will bring so much joy to his family.

Women come to me because, as a woman who carried two baby bumps, I know what it is like and I treat all my glowing clients like the Queen Goddesses that they are! I fuss over their hair so it falls just right. I perfect my lighting to highlight all the right curves. I gush over their awesomeness! And when I have clients that come to me, somewhat shy and with a hint of self-doubt, I offer gentle guidance and easy posing suggestions to ensure the best results.

I just love this backdrop fabric. It is a subtle floral with wonderful pleats in the fabric. It matched with the headband and wrap perfectly!
Mom and Dad wanted purples so this is the set up I created next. Isn't is so dreamy?
This little thing looked so comfortable in every set up we did! Don't you just love her little feet sticking out?

We were able to lull this sweetheart to sleep for this lovely plum set up. My handmade log bed is always a client favourite and it looks so good with this stretch wrap and matching bonnet!

As a Montreal Photographer, I get to see the prettiest ladies! This stunning mama-to-be was no exception!
We went for a nice balance of dramatic and fun.
A black background with dramatic lighting paired with a strong maternal gaze makes this image truly a work of art.
How cute is that baby bump? Sometimes, a simple look is all you need.
These were among my favourites of the session. I just love the ethereal look of white on white!

I just adore this gorgeous knit sleeper outfit with bear bonnet. She makes an adorable little baby bear!
This little Miss was a solid baby and was a dream to cuddle!

She slept right through every set up we did. So glad she allowed us to pose her in this sweet bed prop.
Blue for girls for the win!
Are you wanting to capture your little love with a newborn portrait session?
]]>Just look at her adorable, delicate newborn features!
Little Miss decided she had had enough sleeping but she was so full of expression and content that I continued posing her and we captured these adorable facial expressions! So darn cute!
Wide awake or peacefully asleep, she was a doll.
I love doing the Potato Sack pose but this was one of the first times I was able to capture one with baby awake! As long as baby is calm, we go with the flow and do not need to wait until they are fully asleep. The results are beautiful. What eye-contact she gave!
This peach set-up is divine, don't you agree? I love using my handmade curved log bench. So proud that I can say I made it and I am so pleased that it has become a studio favourite among my newborn parents!

He was a superstar during his newborn photography session and let us get through many sweet set ups! One of which uses his Dad's hockey equipment and another in my fuzzy bear outfit! I cannot wait to show them all off!
This one is called The Potato Sack and is comprised of two images edited together in photoshop.
Rest assured, loving hands were on him securely the whole time! Babies cannot naturally hold their own weight so only professionally trained newborn photographers who know how to pose safely and create composites should attempt this and other more advanced newborn poses.

This little bundle of joy was so good for her newborn session. She tolerated me fussing over her through 4 different set-ups!
This muted pink backdrop is so gorgeous next to her skin tone. I don't often do my black and white edits for beanbag images but the simple and clean lines coupled with the white wrap called out to be rendered in the crisp black and white too!

This little man was the sweetest Wild One!
When mom and dad contacted me with the request of a Wild One Cake Smash Milestone Session, I squealed a little!
I have had the most amazing Wild Things outfit and crown for a little over a year and was thrilled to finally have the chance to try it out! Even though it is sized for up-to 3 years old, we made it work for this One Year Old!
This is merely a sneak-peek so, you will just have to wait to see the images with the full outfit. But, trust me, they will be worth the wait!
This image includes a little extra work in the post production, where I added a cute digital backdrop to add to the magic! I LOVE how it turned out and how perfectly it suits the birthday boy's expression!

This is my "why"...Why do I focus my photographic skills on the tiniest of subjects? It's pretty obvious... just look at these sweet newborn portraits! I adored the newborn stages with both my children and so I decided to create my brand and business just so I could continue to hold and snuggle these amazing beings. A little selfish of me, I'll admit, but because I hold such honour to these new humans, you know my heart is in the right place as I take the utmost care and gentle ways to sooth, pose and create timeless memories for you and your child.
A big, heartfelt thank you to all the amazing mamas and papas who trusted me with their most precious bundles!
Now booking Newborn Portrait Sessions for 2018! Contact us today to learn more at [email protected] or click the "Contact" button at the top to get started.
Newborn Sessions are best done when baby is between 7-10 days new, so be sure to inquire about a session when you are still pregnant to ensure a spot on my calendar!
]]>Little baby Leah was such a sweet little girl who didn't really want to sleep too much during her newborn photo session but, we made it work and between much cuddling and soothing, we got some amazing memories for all of them! These images will be poured over in a week's time, in a month's time, in a year's time... in 10 years and beyond! She will always know how loved she was, right from the beginning.

How adorable is this sweet baby?
Although he had other plans during his newborn portrait session (eating, being cuddled,
more eating...), we managed to get some pretty sweet sleepy poses!
I can't wait to share the rest of the session images with proud mom and dad!

Think back to last year’s winter holidays. What memories do you have? How did you capture the feelings and spirit of your celebrations? If it was all one big, tinsel-filled blur, worry not, I’ve got you covered this year!
Believe me, I know how hectic the holidays can get! Time commitments seem to multiply as family and friend invitations and obligations begin to role in. Then there is the shopping, the food prep, the wrapping, the decorating and the organizing of teachers, child care staff , coworker and charitable gifts. When the holiday dust finally settles, what will you have to show for the chaos? By implementing some of the tips and suggestions below, you can you create lasting memories for your family that can be enjoyed and even passed down as new traditions for future generations!
Get out the sleeping bags and snuggle up under the glow of the twinkle lights. Make some hot cocoa or smores and sing songs or chat about what you are all thankful for this holiday season.
My children LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing their younger selves ham it up on video! Pop some corn and enjoy the laughs and the nostalgia of days gone by. Bonus points if you can pull out any videos from your own childhood!
As the days turn colder and the daylight shorter, we see our neighbourhoods come to life and transform into a glowing, magical world. Schedule some evening walks to take in these beautiful scenes. Children marvel at how dark it is outside (and that they are still awake!) and everyone can enjoy the crisp evening air and sweet sights!
As a parent, I have read at least one bazilion books to each of my chlldren. And while I do love reading aloud I think it a fine gift to give to grandparents, aunts, uncles and older cousins. Gifting a children’s book to the other adults in your child’s life creates a pocket of time for the person receiving the gift and your child, who will obviously ask for the book to be read immediately, and several times, with different voices! A personal favourite in our house is the book by B.J. Novak called The Book With No Pictures. Hilariously fun!
Get your children involved at family gatherings by having a ‘Helping Hands’ jar with simple chores written on pieces of paper (you can use visual images for the wee ones). Chores can include taking coats from guests, passing out napkins and snacks, getting guests to participate in a holiday puzzle or game, clearing the dirty plates, laying out the dessert (although you may want to monitor this one!). Children develop a great sense of pride in helping out so don’t miss this opportunity to help them grow while divvying up the multitude of tasks on your holiday list!
Since my mother passed away, 20 Christmases ago, I have had the annual joy (and tears!) of unboxing all of the ornaments from my childhood home. I love taking them out every year, reminiscing about which one was given by whom and when. Which were homemade and which store bought ones hold special meaning. A tradition I’ve continued is gifting an ornament to my husband and to each of my children. Each child will eventually have a box full of ornaments to take with them when they have their own trees to deck!
One Winter Holiday, my husband had the idea of creating our own Family Movie. Together with our then 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter, we scraped together a loose outline that quickly developed into a full feature! (My husband was really into this and so he actually drew up storyboard with every scene laid out!). We spent an entire day filming The Fantastics and it was awesome family fun! Regardless of the final product (videographers we were not!), we created space and time to be together, playing characters, creating costumes and just having a ball! If you are curious about our home movie, you can check it out here!
Whatever activities you decide to implement this holiday season, do them with
slow intention and savour every (non-stressed out) moment!

The above pose is called the "Potato Sack". It's okay to laugh out loud at that one! Every niche has it's own terminology, right?
To achieve this and other advanced newborn portrait poses most professional photographers choose turn to the magic of photoshop. Unless baby is lying comfortably on his or her back, soundly sleeping in a secure set-up, like a basket or bucket, hands need to be supporting their tiny and very wobbly frame at all times.
If I get requests for these types of advanced poses I will either have my assistant scheduled for that session or I will employ the steady hands of mom or dad.
Below is a collage of images straight out of camera (SOOC). I always get one image of the scene all by itself and then instruct my assistant/mom/dad with safety positioning to ensure that I get 3 clean shots of the different parts of baby's body, hairline and face.
Once the session is over, the real magic begins! It is always a challenge to nail the in camera angles so that my post production workflow is quick and seamless.
Carefully and with much zooming in and out, I layer the images and remove what I don't want ( a big, hairy man arm!).
The result of my labour is (hopefully!) flawless and many who happen upon the image in their Facebook newsfeed may believe that this is just the way that babies hang out. But now you know the truth and you can help spread the word about newborn portrait baby-safety!
Of course, I take my composited image and transform it further with my hand editing. Finally, it is deemed worthy for the parents to oooohhhh and shhhhhh over!
If you want me to create some newborn photography magic for you, contact me today so we can be sure to have the all the helping hands we need!

I thouroughly enjoyed putting on my creative cap to create this anchor prop. It shows just how tiny baby is!
I can’t wait to share the rest of this sweet boy’s session with his forever family!
]]>This is just a little sneak peek from their outdoor family portrait photography session. When you have a brother, you have a friend for life!
Although we had a bit of a rough start (cutting a nap will make anyone cranky, am I right?), we ended with good spirits, giggles and awesome moments!
Looking forward to showing this family all their wonderful session images!

A few un-bearable set-ups!
The 'baby on a shelf' is a pose done safely with baby on the floor.
We had to get some of his sweet profile too!
These sweet details will become cherished memories when baby is grown.
A little holiday touch with some holly berries.

We made some beautiful newborn art during this session <3
Some babies are more sensitive to being touched or moved and though she made me work during this session it was so worth it!
I adore the close ups!
Thank you for the cuddles little miss!

I cannot wait to share the rest of this amazing session with you!

Being pregnant will change your body, your mind and your heart, forever! Your body will grow, nourish and protect the wee little life inside of you. Your pre-pregnant 'look' will return but your body is changed forever. It has learned and felt the beauty, pain and sweetness of birth. It can never unlearn that.
Your mind will change too...you will have fears you didn't know were possible! You will wonder how you had time to do so much nothing before baby came along. You will become forgetful and stay that way, pretty much from now on (TMI?). You mind will also learn to multi-task like you've never known. Sure, you may not be able to recall your 23-digit bank number that you've known by heart for years, but you will certainly be able to feed your baby while making a shopping list and folding the third load of laundry.
Your heart will, of course, grow (literally in volume with blood!). Your emotional heart will grow to bursting, sometimes many times an hour! The loveliest of love is the love for your baby. It can be so overwhelming that you come to understand how much we, as women, have within us. We are magical and these maternal changes must be celebrated!
This beautiful mama's maternity session was one such celebration. Dramatic and glamorous. Beautiful and playful. A woman, growing a tiny human to love, nourish and protect.
This mama is already rocking motherhood! Congratulations!
It's never too early to book your maternity session. Contact Tanis today to set up a pre-consultation to chat about celebrating your pregnancy and journey into motherhood.
]]>
It truly is a small world! This mama to be reached out to me to photograph her second pregnancy. When we chatted on the phone for the planning of the session I had no idea who I was talking to! When the family walked in the door the day of the maternity session I got a strange sense of familiarity. When I spoke to my husband about it later on that day we realized that this very mama was the doctor present when I gave birth to my baby girl 5 years earlier!!! Oh how life works in mysterious ways...
This family image is going to be such a memory of life before three became four!
I adore this set of images using 'Dream Lighting' (back-lit)! How stinkin' cute is big-brother-to-be???
I think it's pretty clear to see that he already loves his baby!
Of course, we had to make some of the session about the gorgeous, life-growing mama too!
Doesn't she look radiant in our black lace maternity studio gown?
Congratulations Dr Dolan on your growing family and thank you for allowing me to capture your most precious memories!
Maternity Sessions are best booked for between 33 and 37 weeks along. A beautiful variety of gowns, wraps and accessories are available for every mama to use during her studio portrait session.

This little peanut was brought to me at close to 5 weeks new! It is rare that I can book last-minute newborn sessions when baby is already here but luckily I had space in my schedule. I'm so glad I did because baby James was a dream to cuddle and photograph!
Mom and Dad opted for a session with grey tones. Perfection!
Getting parent poses is crucial, even though I know most moms and dads are feeling exhausted and less than picture-perfect... It is so important for baby that you capture the love you have for him right from the beginning.
Exist in photos for your children!
I could NOT resist using my grey mouse bonnet on this adorable baby. Cheeks for days!
Thank you for allowing me to capture your most precious bundle!
Be sure to book your newborn session while still pregnant to ensure your session spot.

This amazing park is my go-to spot for beautiful scenery and lush backdrops.
Could these kids be any cuter? We had so much fun making silly faces and snuggling up on the blanket.
Pratt Park boasts many features but by far the favourite spot for my clients of all ages is the duck pond!
Did I mention how adorable my clients are?
We even had time to celebrate this little man's milestone of turning one year old!
I am always amazed at the growth that takes place within the first year of life. From tiny and fragile, to strong and able! Yet, that sweet face will always be his!
Thank you family for trusting me with your sweet moments!
Outdoor family portrait sessions take place in both summer and fall. Spots are limited so book your family session today!
]]>When mama asked for a circus-themed portrait session to celebrate his one-year milestone I squealed with excitement! We opted for doughnuts instead of the traditional cakes mash session.
He certainly seemed to like my set-up!
Once the tasting began, there was no stopping him!
Mama appreciated the close-ups and different angles we were able to get.
It's all fun when you turn ONE!!!
We ended the session with an adorable bubble bath.
The look on his face is everything! Thank you for coming back little man and a very Happy 1st Birthday to you!

This family welcomes their 4th daughter into their lives. Baby Lilly will have all the love she can handle!
She was such a doll for her session. I didn't even get peed or pooped on! She was a star.
I love that it when I can catch a lovely grin. Sweet!
These tiny details will be cherished as newborn art forever!
At one point during the 3-hour session, little Miss decided she was done with sleeping! I love the wide-eyed images almost as much as the sleeping ones.
Sleeping beauty, right?
Green is typically reserved for boys but I just love it on little girls too!
I am so happy for this beautiful family! Thank you for bringing your sweet girls into my studio.
]]>
Mom and Dad are so in love with this little person and it's easy to see why! Look at these tiny details!!
I always grab my macro lens to capture these sweet baby bits.
Now, it's easy to see where this adorable and beautiful baby gets his stunning looks!
I was so excited to take these family portraits.
This pose is called "The Potato Sack" and I love it! This is done as a composite, for baby's safety. Hands were always on baby and I used my editing skills to create the resulting magic look of baby sitting up on his own! Newborn posing requires training on safety, first and foremost!
These poses below are done on the 'Bean Bag' which is a large, malleable surface used by professional photographers. It allows us to be close to baby and to make those tiny adjustments needed to get these amazing shots.
"Bum Up"
"Side-Lying" in a blue stretch wrap
"Huck Finn"
"Wrapped Womb Pose"
"Head on Hands"
Bucket Poses are my favorite!!!
"Head on Hands in Bucket"
"Bucket Prop Bird's Eye View"
"Sleepy Time Crate Prop"
And of course, I just had to this sweet image of him in my custom-made fox bonnet and fox stuffy! So stinkin' cute!
I also love to make my own props and was thrilled when Mom and Dad wanted to use my hand-made, curved wooden bench!
"Womb Pose" on curved wooden bench
One of my most popular poses highlights just how tiny your baby is!
"Baby in Hands"
It is such a personal joy when I can hand over a beautiful gallery of priceless images to my clients.
I know these images will be cherished for a lifetime and beyond! Thank you April and Antoine for trusting me with your most precious package!

And in pink!

This beautiful little guy was a first for me. I have been waiting a long time for him to come into my studio. I always take time to capture the tiny details of toes and lips... those itty bits that will only continue to grow as time moves on. Notice the hair whorls on his perfect head? Most babies are born with one swirl but this little man was born with two! I have only seen images of this phenomenon and now I have captured it!
This little man is mama's first baby and it is aways such a joy to witness the love that unfolds.
What's not to love about this guy?
So small, so sleepy, so perfect!
I love the subtle softness that the colour grey offers. Doesn't he look cozy here?

I was able to convince Mom and Dad to get in front of my lens and I am so glad they did... what a stunningly beautiful family!

I was so happy to have a little girl in studio after a string of boys. So much pink and bling!
This family of 5 is just stunning! So much love ready to be shared.
These three are going to have a ton of fun together!
Although the ladies were all for the pink, we went with some neutral tones to appease dad...okay, with a pink rug for a bit of pop!

Thank you, sweet baby boy for spending some time with me!
Her big sister was also a sport. It can be difficult to get children engaged in a portrait session, especially with a new sibling in the mix, but it is obvious that the bond is strong between these two already.

We were able to contain Oliver, however briefly, in a variety of props and by entertaining him with some pretty cool toys. Such a happy guy, right?

I am so happy to know this beautiful family and honoured that they chose me to capture these memories!
Big thanks to the little man for being such a good sport throughout the entire photo session! You are one sweetheart of a boy Oliver!

Mom made the hats in the photographs! One for mom's team and one for dads!
Baby Grayson, you are so very loved!
Congratulations family! Thank you for choosing Tanis Saucier Photography to create moments and memories that you will cherish for a lifetime!
Big brother and big sister were wonderful at following my directions and were really great with their sweet little sister! So many hugs and kisses were passed around during the session!
We worked quickly to change outfits and backgrounds to keep baby comfortable and happy...
and then.... baby 'A' fell fast asleep! So I scrambled to create a set up, wrapped her oh-so gently and captured these sweet baby moments...
She even let me pose her!
Thank you so much for allowing me to capture these moments in time for you!

We were able to do so many different set ups. She was a doll that I just wanted to keep!

I was so honoured to do this newborn session for my dear friends.
This is their third beautiful daughter ... a truly blessed family!
This is what a family full of love looks like!
I can't get enough of this sweet set up! Doesn't little Miss P look adorable? *sigh*
I was also able to convince mom to capture her amazing maternal form... I love incorporating fabric from the maternity sessions into the newborn sessions... the sweetest before and after ever!
I love what I do and the gift of memories I get to create. I also love these guys with my whole heart!
You make beautiful and happy children!

He was born with style! Look at that gorgeous hair and charming smile... he has such amazing expressions for a newborn. I could have photographed him all day! (and no, he was not tooting or pooping! Tee Hee!)
Mom wanted more natural tones as well as some lovely teal/aqua pops of colour. Simple and organic looks let the focus be all about the baby.
An absolute doll!
He will never be this tiny again... I am so honoured that Rim trusted me to capture this amazing and oh-so-fleeting time...
Thank you, Baby Liam, for allowing me to cuddle and share the morning with you!
I wish you all the best for the future as a new family of three!

There are some things though, that I just cannot make. I leave the amazing blankets, wraps and flokati rugs to the experts! As a newborn photographer, I always want to highlight the newborn and so I often choose simple set ups with gentle colours. I have received a new shipment of ' Farm Fluff' which is made from natural wool and comes in a variety of colours. I cannot wait to try them out! Think cotton candy-like fluff in soft beige, baby pink and emerald green....
I have also received some sweet bonnets and some new backdrops too! I want to perfect the look of these new props and to do so, I am holding a model call for babies due at the end of this month (february 2015) and the beginning of March, 2015. These sessions will be for baby only and will be a short 90-minutes (compared to 2-4 hours where I photograph baby, siblings as well as parent and family portraits). Feel free to share this blog with any and all moms who are expecting a new arrival soon!
To learn more about the Model Call or to book your full newborn session, contact me today!
Looking forward to hearing from you!

This is one of my favourite moments captured! I love the sibling love that you see here...
Magic happens if you believe...
and yes, they are a sweet brother-sister act too!
How about those cheeks?
And..... cue the sweetness!
I had so much fun with each of these sessions!
This pair cracks me up! You have to agree that little brother has the best hair ever!

I am so happy to have met Karen and Guillaume at Melons and Clementines during my holiday mini session event. Karen's newest member had already arrived and she inquired about a new-born session. I usually meet with families who are interested in capturing their newborn baby when they are still pregnant and so the timing of our meeting was quite serendipitous! We set up an appointment to meet again for our pre-consultation where I was able to show them my wonderful products, answer their questions and discuss details of the session. I was able to visit their home two days later for our session date! It is so important to document these fleeting newborn beings... they are only this small for so long....
Enjoy these images... you can just feel the family comfort and closeness that a new baby brings into the home.
These brothers already seem to have so much to share together... so much sweetness!
Karen's mother is a very skilled quilt maker. We just had to photograph the boys on their quilts! Gorgeous work grandma!
Little J was such a sweet and charming baby. He wasn't so interested in sleeping and preferred
to keep his big, piercing blue eyes open!
I was able to catch some snoozing shots too!
Pure and precious!
Protective, loving hands will guide and care for your little J, always.
Thank you Karen and Guillaume for choosing me to capture your new, beautiful family!

Although.... Mr E can really pull off the accessories in style too...
...in the end however.... that hair! And the lips... and the cheeks....and the tiny fingers.....
This little man was more than happy to help me with setting up for the session.
Big brother K has much to teach his new baby brother. He knows how to relax and how to have fun!
Swaddled babies.... yes we love swaddled babies!
I am so thrilled to have been able to spend some 4 hours with this beautiful family...
posing them as well as capturing some candid moments... in timeless black and white...
Quiet, tender moments shared between a parent and newborn... *sigh*
Sweetness has arrived!
Welcome to the world little E. Your loving family is all that you need!

You may have heard about or have even seen images of the latest craze to hit the photography scene... Cake Smash Sessions are all the rage to capture that one-year milestone. And I am here to say that they are fantastic!
When Miss J's mom suggested a Cake Smash Session for her sweet daughter's 3rd birthday, I jumped on it! If a one year old can smash a cake, a three year old could only do it that much better.
We set the scene, got the cake, the balloons and the perfect outfit and set out to capture the exhilaration that can only come from being allowed to do something you wouldn't normally be allowed to do! However, Miss J is such a beautiful little living porcelain doll that I couldn't just jump straight into the bashing and mashing and messiness right away... so we played dress up and had a ton of silly fun...
Such a delight!
A little coy and a whole lotta spunk!
and of course... the cutest poser award goes to....
And now for the main event.....
Thank you so much for allowing me to help celebrate this amazing milestone Miss J!
May you always have your cake and get to eat it too!

I so love a good close-up baby pout!
I am loving the darker tones in these images... in combination with the softness of a newborn sleeping peacefully... heavenly!
Bits and Pieces...
Newborns change so quickly... capturing this newness is so important. Never forget how little they started out in life!
This pose below was safely shot with baby Ines lying down on her side on a black background while her mother cupped her body in her hands from below. Poses should always be done with the baby's safety in mind!
Congratulations to Mom, Dad and their two sons in welcoming tiny Ines home. I look forward to photographing you all again soon!

When I plan for an in-home session I collaborate with the clients in a pre-consultation to learn about the style of images they are after. Mom and Dad love the simplicity of a black background so that was our main focus. I bring all necessary equipment with me for in-home portrait sessions as well as a whole lot of energy and patience!
I even bring fishy crackers.... a little salty-crunchy encouragement always makes a Little Love session run smoothly!
Time for some family portraits too!
Down Time!
Even the family cat got in on the photo session. Memories made to last a lifetime!
Thank you boys for playing with me and for all the help cleaning up at the end!

This year I was honoured to volunteer my time to capture the event that was held at Melons & Clementines on October 4th. We had 38 babies latched on simultaneously which will be recorded in the worldwide results on the Quintessence Foundation page.
A big thanks to my fellow volunteers from Nourri Source for all their hard work in preparing and donating their time and to Marie-Maude and Rénee of Melons and Clementines for their generous donation of the space in hosting the event! Spread the word... breast is best!

Just how much has your womanly body had to endure so far in your lifetime? How many babies have you carried, delivered and continue to carry, (despite the fact that they have been walking on there own for years now?). How much time do you actually dedicate to YOU AND YOUR TEMPLE? That's what I thought. I am sure you can relate to the aches and pains of the everyday mother... the sore knees as you squat down to tie a shoe or pick up a wayward toy for the humpteenth time... the way your back screams as you haul your toddler up in your arms, already full with grocery bags, so you can cross the street before the light turns red... the pops and cracks your hips make because your bones and ligaments have been pushed to the extreme and still haven't seemed to return to their pre-pregnancy positions. I am here to (uncomfortably) stand up and say loudly to the world, "I PROMISE TO MAKE TIME FOR MY BODY!" Because truly, it is all that I have that will, quite literally, carry me through the rest of this life! I want to be able to bike around town as long as I can. I want to be able to get down on the floor with grandbabies. I want to be able to dance at my 80th birthday. I need to start now to ensure that I have a fighting chance at these things and more.
We are all trying so desperately to juggle motherhood, domestic duties, careers and loving relationships that it seems like our basic well being always gets shuffled to the bottom of the 'To Do' pile. Maybe you are like me and you go through waves of good-for-your-body activity and feel great, only to get inundated with tasks, and laundry and life in general! Then comes the guilt which we all know is eased by chocolate, right? I will not give up my chocolate but, with the my aging bones as witness, I am going to pay closer attention to my body's signs.
In my former life, about two or so dozen years ago, I was a dance major at Concordia University. It was certainly a passion and I was thrilled to be dancing every.single.day. I even took an additional year of modern technique classes, without credit, so I wouldn't have to stop what my body and soul craved. I LOVED every movement class and the way my body ate up the space around me. So, I know I have it in me to get moving again. But after kids and time and years of just moving to get from one place to the next, it is a challenge. In a desperate internet search to help heal my creaking, aching hip sockets I stumbled across a vaguely familiar term... Feldenkrais. My memory went straight to the span of days that we spent in anatomy class with a Feldenkrais instructor who taught us how to stand and sit. Being in my early 20's I obviously felt I had mastered these physical feats and with eyes rolling, I barely endured the painfully slow repetitive descent up and down, from standing, to sitting and back again, and over again and over and over.
Fast forward 20 years and 2 babies later and I am getting reacquainted with the Feldenkrais method. Attention to how your body feels is at the core of this movement pedagogy. With slow, deliberate and oh-so gentle movement patterns targeting specific areas of your body, you can reset your body's alignment allowing for greater mobility, flexibility and ease of motion. Many of these exercises begin with you lying on the floor and that is definitely my kind of exercise! But seriously, I committed to these movement patterns at the height of my hip and lower back pain last year and was shocked at how quickly and thoroughly my body responded. Of course, when things are going well, there is no problem until there is a problem. So it is back to the Attention To Movement regime. Below is a sweet introduction to how we all can get back to the basics of our body mechanics.

]]>I was able to escape my mama duties for a few days and jet off for a fun-filled visit with her in London, Ontario last summer. We packed so much of a good time into 3 days...I wish I could bottle it and take a sip from it every now and again! One of the things I wanted to do while visiting was get her in front of my camera. She has an incredible smile and, as you can see, the bluest eyes! So, with a mean chocolate martini recipe, selected wardrobe, hair and makeup and some upbeat music, we got down to it.
Kelly was such a good sport and allowed me to take her
out around her neighbourhood to get a few outdoor field shots. Gorgeous!
We moved inside and enjoyed another martini (or three...hey no judgement, I was on vacation!) while we prepared for the indoor set up.
Kelly rocked this tight little black dress! Some SERIOUS WOW, right?
When her son saw these images he said, "Mom, you look famous!"
Some full length curves for good measure.... can I get a "woot woo"?
Kelly, you are such a bright light in my life and I love you dearly... shine on!
I had the joy and pleasure of hanging out with Kelly and a bunch of her wonderful lady friends this past weekend when they came down to Montreal. A sumptuous dinner in the Old Port, a midnight masquerade boat cruise and dancing, dancing, dancing! Kelly and I even got to enjoy martinis together again! I can't wait until my next trip to London. Hopefully I will get the chance to do another beauty session with Kelly and all the other beauties I met!

"What sparked your interest in the art of becoming a Doula?"
"I never realized what "birth"days meant until I had my daughter Juniper. From conception to delivery the childbearing year was filled with differing emotions, from overwhelming joy to complete fear of the unknown. As labour was approaching, there came a point where both my husband and I knew that we could use some help and we sought out the unique service of a doula. She educated us, empowered us to make our own choices, encouraged us and most importantly loved us. She was there for us during the labour supporting us in a way that allowed me to work with the sensations of labour that were happening within me. I started motherhood brave and a hero. I was on cloud nine. Every year as we celebrate Juniper getting 1 year older, we look back at her achievements, her milestones, who she is and who she wants to be. But part of me will always reflect back to the day that the power of love changed my life in the most beautiful way."
"When and how were you certified?"
"Six months after the birth of my daughter, my passion took over and I began the training to be a doula with the organization Motherwit. Working with couples during the childbearing year allows me to take my passion to my work. I have since also done workshops in acupressure and yoga Nidra for birth. As well, I will soon begin to teach birth education classes. Truly, from one parent to another it's the greatest gift I want to give people."
"What services do you offer to parents interested in hiring you?"
"Typically, for first time moms, I offer a package that includes 3 prenatal visits, attendance at the birth and a postpartum visit. As well, I include email and phone support throughout the pregnancy. I am able to offer receipts for insurance should couple have private insurance."
To contact Yvonne for more information on her Doula services, she can be reached at www.doulacaremtl.com

Yummy! Whether you are trying to lower your consumption of wheat or not, these homemade crackers are a must-try! Chalked-full of protein and just a hint of creaminess, these crackers melt in your mouth!
I enlisted the help of my wee baker daughter. Doesn't she look sweet in her little red apron? She insisted on being part of every step in the cracker making process!
What you see is what you need! Three ingredients mixed together in a bowl. THREE!!!! (you can add a tsp of salt to make it 4 ingredients if you like). Mix 2 cups of almond flour with 1/3 cup of sour creme and about a 1/2 ~ 1 cup of chopped chives. You will have a nice sticky dough....
The image above shows my little baker rolling out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper... thin enough to get nice and crispy in the oven. Be sure to cut the rolled dough into cracker-like squares before baking. A pizza cutter makes this easy work!
The last step is to bake these up in an oven, preheated to 250 degrees for 50-60 minutes. Check on the crackers frequently towards the end to prevent burning... you want lightly browned edges for the perfect cracker.
These can be enjoyed with a dab of sour creme, with some fragrant chick pea curry or simply on their own. Creamy, crunchy, tart and totally addicting!
Enjoy this simple recipe with your little bakers today!
]]>I am so excited to share the beautiful results of my Mini Portrait Session Event that took place at Melons and Clementines last Thursday! My lens was loving every single thing about these stunning Mamas and their sweet babies!
First of all... If you are not familiar with the amazing cafe/boutique that is Melons et Clémentines and you are a breastfeeding mother or know a breastfeeding mother or a mom-to-be, you really need to visit! Co-owners, Marie-Maude Grenier and Renée Boudreau have created the perfect, one-stop-shop for all your breastfeeding and baby-wearing needs. Situated in NDG, it is also a bustling cafe that has child-friendly food, a play area and a meeting room that hosts a variety of classes (and photo sessions!). This is the place for moms to meet up and enjoy a coffee or tea in a warm, comfortable and welcoming environment.
Thank you ladies for hosting this amazing event!
The mamas and babies were truly wonderful and so trusting of me... the time flew by and the images showing up on the back of my camera were touching, tender and full of love! I knew I had to immediately download the images and get to work on the editing. I wanted to have them ready for showing clients in time for Mother's Day. Editing three sessions and getting them ready for the in-person viewing appointment in such a short time was a challenge but I am proud to say.... mission accomplished!
It was hard not to tear up during the shoot at times...flooded with memories of my own breastfeeding days... the sweet bond between these Mamas and their babes proves just how important physical closeness is.
How happy is this little guy?
The antibodies, the nutrition, the nourishment, the comfort, the trust and the amazing bond that is established between mother and babe at the breast... aside from actually growing a human being inside you, breastfeeding truly is the second most amazing super power!
For those of you with older children you know that the old adage, "They grow up so fast" is true. It seems that all of a sudden your children are eating from a plate, talking up a storm and walking away from you... I am so happy to have captured the spirit of this early and precious time! And what a spirit on this little bundle of joy below ... doesn't she have the BEST expressions?
Sweet memories that will last a lifetime... Don't you just adore creamy baby skin? This mama and baby are just so lovely together. I can't wait to deliver their beautiful prints so they can get them up on the walls in the nursery to look at and admire through the years.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to each of these mamas for trusting me to capture such intimate and tender moments. Your beautiful babies will be so grateful to look upon the two of you together in the years to come!
Happy Mother's Day to all mothers celebrating... may you all be as spoiled as your children are with love on this day and everyday!
Are you wanting to create some beautiful memories to hold onto and share with your children? Call today to find out how I can help you get stunning images to proudly display in your home.

We have come a long way since I was born. No one was breastfed in my family. I was shocked to learn that my early newborn 'nutritional needs' were met with home-made formula ... a concoction made up of milk, powdered milk and corn syrup. Yes ladies and gentlemen, corn syrup!!! In the 50's, 60's and early 70's the trend in breastfeeding, like the birth process itself, was turing clinical. Mother's didn't know best and were being told and sold on 'benefits' of feeding your child formula. Now breastfeeding is being embraced as the amazing and awesome super food that it is. I love that breastfeeding is finally getting the attention and respect it deserves. I am thrilled when I see the 'Breast Feeding Friendly" signs on store doors and cafe walls. I wholeheartedly support choice and in no way want to 'shame' mothers who choose not to or are unable to breastfeed. I am simply content that, with much trial and error, I was able to choose breastfeeding.
These two images are the 'proof' that my children continued to benefit from my direct nourishment. They both self-weaned around the 15 month mark and with little more than a passing fancy to shove a tiny hand down my top, it was over. The freedom I felt was only slightly overshadowed with the twinge of nostalgia for those close, quiet moments that belonged only between us. A truly magical event.
The dark and very pixelated image to the left was taken by my partner with our very low quality point & shoot camera. Oscar was all but 3 tiny months here. It is far from clear, perfect or technically sound but it is all that I have to remember our breastfeeding time together and I adore it. Rowan, in the image above, was a mere 13 weeks and although it was taken with my DSLR camera, it is also the only image I have of her at my breast. I cherish these images because they capture a part of who I was as a mother. A very important part that I am so very proud of.
I want to give this opportunity to all breastfeeding moms so I am announcing my Maternity & Nursing Mini Sessions Event! On May 1st I will be holding studio-style mini sessions at Melons and Clementines for moms-to-be and nursing moms who want gorgeous images that will tell a part of your story as a mother.
If you are expecting and will be 7 months pregnant or more on May 1st or if you are a mother who enjoys the breastfeeding experience, I welcome you to celebrate these milestones with a portrait session. The session appointments are limited to 8 so don't delay in getting your spot today! Give me a call at 514-935-7266, email me at [email protected] or click HERE to send me a message.

The transformation toward motherhood starts off so innocently, doesn't it? At first, there are very few outward signs of what is brewing within... a bit of nausea, tender breasts and the ability to sleep practically anywhere. But in a few short months the changes become obvious and continue as your body blooms to a beautiful fullness. The growing of a baby is nothing short of a superpower that should be admire and revered!
This second time mom-to-be is simply stunning and I am so very honoured that she chose me to help celebrate and commemorate her body in bloom. Nikki specifically requested fine art-styled Black & White nudes and as a photographer, I leapt at the opportunity.
Although I adore Black & White images, especially dramatically lit images, Nikki's skin tone is so
lovely that I had to include some with colour.
Nikki was a natural in front of the lens. Although pregnancy can be a time of great physical and emotional strain, this mama embraced her form and allowed me to gently pose her in flattering ways. She will now have these images forever to look back on in awe and amazement!
I have been blessed with the gift of growing two babies inside me. I actually really loved being pregnant. I remember the exact moments with each babe, the exact place I was in when I first felt their flutter deep down inside me. As those movements grew in strength and frequency I was reassured... I could do this... I was built to do this! I was most proud of my maternal shape...the curves, the girth, the knowledge that I was carrying a little human, tucked away under my heart, that was dependant on me for its every need.
You are so ready for this next leap Nikki. I absolutely loved getting to know you and your soon-to-grow family. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing this session, editing this session and then getting to see your reaction and your selections at your in-person viewing appointment. I am glad too, that I was able to deliver your gorgeous prints in time for you and your family to linger over and enjoy before baby arrives! You are beautiful and strong and your body and baby are ready to begin the final journey.
Thank you for trusting me with these special moments and I wish you a 'calm as possible' birthing experience ;)

She's here, she's here!
Little Penelope was a dream baby. Just look at her! I had the pleasure of photographing little P in her home two weeks ago. Tiny and delicate with quite the pair of lungs, Miss Penelope had my heart as I held her, stroked her mop of hair and posed her during her first ever photo session.
Little Penelope is the 3rd child but first girl for proud mom and dad and a little sister to brothers Sam and Bentley- a surprise well worth waiting 9 months for!
For all you parents who are in the 'trio of children' club I say, hats off. While I swaddled, sang, shushed, cooed, rocked and fussed over baby P during the 3 hour session, there was no rest to be had for mom or dad with two boys on the scene! But those boys were very helpful and cooperative when it was there turn in front of the camera... a little treat promised afterwards didn't hurt either!
This girl looks good in everything!
These sessions are, by far, my most favourite sessions to do. I am done with having babies of my own but that newborn smell... the way their mouths pucker and bunch up... the moments of total silence except for the tiny breath rhythmically moving in your arms... I inhaled those moments with my 2 babies and it filled me completely. I am giddy with excitement each time I am called upon to do a newborn session... I get to experience a few more moments.
Thank you for trusting me with your most precious package Stephanie and Josh!
Newborn Portrait Sessions are done in the comfort of your home between 5 and 10 days after birth. Inquire about my Maternity, Newborn and Grow-with-Me Packages by contacting me here.
]]>I have taken my fair share of portraits of cutie pies in the past, but this is the first 'furry' variety I have had the pleasure of including in my sessions. Meet Truffles... a sweet, docile Schnauzer who loves her dried chicken bits! Such a good looking gal who just celebrated her 16th birthday... quite the milestone for a little doggy. Her doting owners, Donna & Mike, are equally charming and well put together, don't you agree?
I had the opportunity of visiting this smashing trio a few weeks ago. We chatted about children, work, schooling and a great number of things in between as I set to work setting up my studio lights and backdrops. Can you believe that this is the first portrait that Mike and Donna have of themselves since their wedding day? What an honour to capture their lively spirit and fun-loving ways!
Sweet! When I asked about their relationship and probed for some insight into sustaining a loving relationship, Mike was quick to say, "Always agree with your wife." Well played Mike, well played!
Truffles was up for some posing so I was able to get her 'sitting pretty' for the camera... with the help of some treats from Donna!
I am so thrilled to have spent time with these people (really, Truffles counts as one!). I look forward to getting their wall portrait and prints to them so they can relive and enjoy these moments in time.
Thank you Donna, Mike and Truffles for trusting me to capture these sweet memories.

What was your New Year's resolution? I bet it had something to do with your exercise habits (or lack thereof!) or your diet, or both. Perhaps you are considering restricting carbs, becoming vegan or taking up Yoga. Well this bread loving, meat eater can only offer up a lovely series of yoga poses as inspiration to your newfound regime. Although I have done Yoga classes in the past and occasionally attempt the sun salutation series (often with a young child or two riding my back), I am far from knowing much about this ancient and sacred practice.
Elizabeth MacKinnon is a gentle Yoga instructor from Ottawa, Ontario whose grace and strength and beauty come nicely packaged in her petit frame. We spent a morning together early in December, in studio, to capture some pretty amazing images for her budding Yoga business.
I created a business promo card for Elizabeth that shows the variety and flare of her personal style...
Elizabeth and I met in another life, (seriously, like decades ago!) in the Contemporary Dance Program at Concordia University. (Surprise! I promise to post more about my experience from this time in my life at a later date!). I am in awe of her commitment to this craft and to her devotion to keeping her body in a healthy state. Not only is she a certified yoga instructor, Elizabeth still collaborates, dances and performs! My dancing has long been restricted to my living room, again with one or two children riding my back. Sigh.
Elizabeth's background in Contemporary Dance is easy to see in every single movement...
I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to reconnect with and then photograph this sweet, funny and very flexible little woman with big talent! Thank you Elizabeth and best of luck in your career to help heal others.

Miss Stella and I had not met prior to me showing up at her home with all my gear, backdrops, reflectors, faux flooring , rug and camera... an entrance that can be a little intimidating for anyone, let alone a child under 3 feet high! This was going to be a mini in-home session and so every second counts. I am always nervous about establishing a good bond with the children I photograph. Without a bonafide connection, the images captured would be mostly of a scared or crying child. Stella made this part of my job so easy, as she ran to me, open arms upon my arrival! What a way to start off a session, right?
I am so happy to have met you,
Miss Stella!
Congratulations to Stella's mom, Heidi, who won this in-home portrait session during the annual Nourri Source Breast Feeding Challenge.

I hadn't even had my studio lights up and they were both seated, patiently waiting, on my backdrop floor. I knew right then we were going to have a fun!
An eight-year old with poise and elegance far beyond her years and the pure, lively spirit of.... well, an eight year old! Paulina is a natural in front of the camera!
Now, I hadn't yet met Oscar but, as many of you know, his name automatically creates a connection between us. My son is 5 year old Oscar. Paulina's Oscar is under 2. He was the perfect gentleman. He obliged me with my camera and my (sometimes successful!) attempts to get his attention. Once I showed him the back of the camera with his image magically in it, he was more interested in the process and with the helpful big sister, I think we got some pretty memorable shots.
I have to, once again, thank this awesome young lady for the sweet ways she helped corral her younger, quick-moving brother. "Thank you Paulina!"
We stepped outside into an overcast and rainy day to get some lovely natural light portraits. Ahhhhh... family love!
Dominique, the mother of these two stunning children, was the winner of one of two Gift Sessions I donated to the Route du Lait Breastfeeding Challenge that was held in October. So many moms and babies turned out for the event to make it a total success. I am so happy that this family won and that I got to be a part of helping them create some memories. Thank you family!

This is Elina, my amazing and (sadly!) former Make Up artist! She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. So young, so talented and wise beyond her years. Elina has moved on to bigger and better things in a different city, so look out new city! Before she jetted off, I was able to get her into a beautifully sun lit studio to kick around and have some fun. These are some of my absolute favourites! She is pure Beauty, inside and out.
I wish you every the very best on your new adventures Elina!
Stay true to your inner beauty, always!

]]>Since this day, I have been itching to do more and more Newborn Baby Love Sessions. I am done having babes of my own and I want more than anything to give new parents the gift of the past... because that is exactly what everything is... every moment, every hiccup, every roll of chub, every pouty lip, smile, tear and laugh becomes, the past. My dear daughter will be two this fall and I cannot believe the transformation. I am so glad I took the time to set up my studio, props and sets so that now I can stare up at my peanut with wonder and joy. It is so hard to recall the little details, the bumps and curves, the softness. Let's face it, the first 3 weeks (or 6!) of being home with a new baby is a blur at best! I don't quite know how I called up the strength and energy to pull this off but in the back of my mind I knew that after day 10, newborn shoots are so-much-harder. They straighten out, they flail, they are more alert, less sleepy and they get that lovely newbie acne and craddle cap! It was a 'now or never' moment and we made it through to the other side. Although I have a ton of pictures of my first born son (a ton!), I was not in the full-on photo session phase of my photography and a lot of the pictures are, well... to be honest, dark, blurry, fuzzy messes! I treasure every single one of them but I am certain that in some distant future I will inevitably get the old, "Why don't I have nice baby pictures like my sister?" I'll keep you posted on that one!
Anyway, back to my birthday and a present for you (or someone you know!). In honour of everything sweet and good, I am putting out a casting call for newborn babes. If you or someone you know will be expecting a squishy package in late September or early October and truly wants those first looks captured to have forever to put up on their walls and in their wallets, get in touch with me ASAP! Click the "Contact" link at the top and send me an email detailing the expected date of birth, mother's name and phone number. I will accept up to 4 babies. Newborn shoots take A LOT of planning and prepping and the sooner I can make contact with the moms and dads to-be, the better. (I require at least one face-to-face meeting with the mom and/or dad prior to the shoot). Everything that is and is not included in these sessions will be discussed when we meet. No pressure, either. We will plan to meet for a coffee or tea or ice cream (your choice, my treat!) in a convenient spot somewhere and go from there.
Happy Birthday To Me!

With summer in its full, sweltering swing comes the many awesome markets around the island of Montreal. Our fav stop is the Jean Talon Market and our finest purchase there is the highly anticipated, seasonal Fresh Corn from The King of Corn / Le Roi du Mais, that also supply freshly boiled cobs with butter and salt to taste! We have to wait a bit longer, as the corn season is not yet upon us. Let me assure you, it is worth the wait.
As a family, we have made the decision to (do our very best to!) eat seasonal, local food. I cringe a little now when I go to buy some juicy Bosc pairs and see that they have travelled all the way from Argentina. Even at the markets, you can find surprises... I never used to take the time to look at the stickers or labels. In my never-ending quest to enjoy the moments, I now choose to slow down, take some time and read. I inform myself, teach my children the information and make better choices.
Two weekends ago, we went on a family outing on a guided, informative tour of Lufa Farms. If you haven't heard of them yet, you will. Urban, rooftop gardening is something that I believe is in our global future. As cities become more congested and farming becomes less about providing healthy, natural produce and more about mass production, we will come to rely on the local initiatives like Lufa Farms. You can read more about Lufa farms here and can even set up your own tour to see first hand, how urban spaces can contribute to the health of a city.
We wanted to test their produce so we signed up for a basket which, unlike some food basket programs, is completely customizable. It begins with a set produce basket that you can then switch around, delete and add to as you wish. This is all done at the online 'Market Place" and is very easy to navigate. Lufa Farms also partners with other surrounding area farms to provide more than just produce, like fresh baked breads, chutneys, jams, spices, oils and other food fair. In our trial basket ($32) we selected Oakleaf lettuce, Rainbow Swiss Chard, Broccoli, Kholrabi, two bouquets of Greens, Sunflower Microgreen Shoots and the most delicious bag of Dried Cranberries I've ever tasted. We did order the lovely flowering Lebanese Cucumbers and a head of Cauliflower as well but they were missing from our basket. A quick call to Lufa Farms and I was immediately speaking to a real person who simply credited my account the amount of the missing produce and apologized for the error. I can see how most of this produce would be gobbled up within a few days and so the medium basket we chose will probably need to be upgraded to comfortably feed our family of four. Although the minimum medium basket price must be met, you can add as much as you like!
I am a mom and I want to.... more importantly... NEED to be around for a long time. I want that time to be healthy and productive while doing as little damage to my surroundings as possible. Little steps are where we can all begin. Go ahead and toddle around the markets. Take a step towards being an informed consumer and read the stickers on your pears. Check out Lufa Farms and the what they are working towards. Decide for yourself whether you really need that bag of organic apples that come from far away places or if you can settle for the locally grown variety. Most of all, slow down and be sure to enjoy every bite of food that passes your lips!

What is it?
... this week's image snippet!
Last week, I decided to make a commitment to fun. The soggy weather, the thick wall of humidity, and cabin fever, made for a cranky bunch! It was weighing heavy and I wanted fun, darn it! My first order in the business of fun was to introduce a weekly Guessing Game for everyone... the extreme closeup last week of beige and brown specs turned out to be a very easy guess for most of you. Cheers to all who participated. The image 'Walking on Eggshells" is actually a self-portrait of sorts! This was shot for use as a Stock photo and has sold numerous times! Pretty neat that I have a famous foot, out there somewhere... My interest in photography has shifted over the years and for the last 3 years I have been drawn to the intimate and personal side of portraiture. A true collaboration with the subject through the very nature of the interaction. But, my metaphoric image of a foot hovering above broken eggshells brought me back to the fun aspects of stock imagery. Working with inanimate objects to create the exact image that I hold in my mind's eye. It is this art of getting lost in the attention to details, that makes the rest of the world drop away and forces me to slow down and have fun! As time intensive as it is to set everything up, get the lighting just right, make sure everything is clean and easy to process, I really love the technical aspect of shooting for stock. I think I will bring out the ol' studio lights again the next time it rains!
Now, with the weather less balmy, I have settled in on my definition of fun... it is less about 'making' fun happen and more about fully 'experiencing' the fun that is already happening around me. To consciously let go of all unnecessary things, to slow way down, to lock focus on this moment with Fun ... quietly lying on the floor with my 20 month old...piggy backs to bed and an extra bedtime song... spontaneous family dance parties that end in bubbly laughter... briefly holding hands in the kitchen while cooking dinner...silently planning an artistic vision and bringing it to fruition. Fun! I hope you continue to play along with my guessing game and I wish you little feelings of fun throughout your day.

Elina St' Onge, my talented MUA (make up artist), created a lovely, soft look for Audrey in the beginning and throughout the session, she added other dramatic accents (those red lips!) as we moved through outfits, backgrounds and poses.
Look on at the stunning images we captured together during the last weekend in my natural light studio...
Back to those lips... doesn't she have the best smile?
I am so thrilled at the results that we were able to get from this one and a half hour session. Always the trooper, Audrey was way cooler than I when we had to literally battle bees that entered through the open window. The things we do for beauty!
I love to take my images to another, almost magical level. This image of Audrey below is stunning on its own... I love the story that her out-of-frame look evokes... I added my own textures and overlays to bring this lovely image to a new height... What story does this image tell for you? I would love a comment down below!

Well Montrealers, unless you have been under a rock for the last 36 hours, you have no doubt heard and been affected by the recent water advisory.
This affected me in a surprising way. Our meal time was slower, due to the boiling and cooling of water before washing our food. We were dish-savey, not wanting to dirty too many, for fear of the lengthy clean up (boil, cool, repeat). Brushing teeth with a glass of boiled, cooled water got me thinking about our upcoming camping trip in July. My kids went without a bath and instead had extra time to play, dance and enjoy late family walks two nights in a row. And I was reminded of how very, very fortunate we are to even have running water at arms length.
Yes, it was a bit of a hassle. Yes, it was most certainly concerning from a health perspective. Yes, the city might have been better equipped to deal with alerting the public in a timely fashion. But, at the heart of the 'crisis', I reconnected with my grateful self and time slowed down.
Now, even though the water advisory has been lifted, I am ever cautious of turning on the tap. Not because I don't believe the quality is good but because I worry about the time when the water just won't be there. Worry, worry, worry. So, what can I do to calm my mind? I can be try to be mindful of every single drop that I use. I can try to fully enjoy each glass of water I drink. I can let my kids stay dirty longer! I can write a blog post detailing this issue in the hopes that you too will become more mindful of the life-sustaining liquid we take for granted on a daily basis.
Drink (water) responsibly folks!

Bernadette and I, along with MUA extraordinaire, Elina St-Onge spent close to three hours playing dress up. Seriously ladies, when was the last time you got together with other women and did that? From start to finish, it was nothing but fun and the results speak for themselves. Gorgeous, sensuous, coy, charming.... lovely. A beautiful woman feeling beautiful... and it shows.
Thank you Bernadette, for sharing your true, beautiful self.
A little while ago, I blogged about Julie's Baby Love Maternity Session (which you can read about here) and the amazing natural light this home has. I had the privilege of going back to that light when Mr. D was just 7 days new. This little bundle of sweetness came into the world at home ... in water. Julie and her family chose to trust the natural birthing process, unhurried and in familiar, comfortable surroundings. I am in awe of the sheer beauty of that choice ~ the intimate and select group of people present, the calm, soothing water, the fact that you don't have to go anywhere, when all is said and done because... you are already home. And now... finally... you are all together.
I cannot stop thinking "sweetness" when I look at him...sigh.
Big sister "D" is already fitting into her new role.
I told you... sweet, right? Little Mr. D is looking especially stylish in his matching pants and hat made just for the occasion by yours truly! (if you are curious to find out how I made this adorable newborn set you can find out here.)
Love, love, love...
Do you see how much love was waiting for you, little boy?

]]>Hello today!
I am so excited and just had to share. I am preparing to photograph the soon-to-be newest member of the Grant family, who's gorgeous, natural light Baby Love Maternity session is posted here. I wanted to created something special just for this new arrival and so I looked to the internet for some ideas. Um... does anyone know about this little secret place called Pinterest? Wow could I (and do I!) get sucked for hours perusing this eye-candy bounty! What I found was nothing short of magical... it is called up-cycling and it speaks to me on many, many levels. Having grown up in a family where money was not to be squandered, I fell in love with used clothing. Apparently, from a young age, I would get very excited at the sight of garbage bags busting with hand-me-downs. Thrift stores and second hand shops are favourite stops of mine on weekends. Something about a rack full of completely unique skirts allows me to go to my 'rebel teen' place and finding that perfect fitting skirt that only I can walk out of the store with speaks to my ego. All this and I can usually pay with pocket change! What more is there to love?
Well, there is a bit more... I, like so many other parents, worry about the state of the world and the direction it is heading. Whoa... heavy. I know. I won't go too far down that doomsday rabbit hole but I have to say that it just eases my consumer conscience a wee bit to shop at used goods and consignment stores. There are many amazing used clothing and furniture stores in and around Montreal and I encourage you to give them a try. You may just walk away with a bag heavy with new items to spice up your Spring wardrobe and a heart light with the knowledge that, with this purchase, your consumer footprint is next to nil.
All this to say that I found, purchased and up-cycled the perfect sweater from a local second hand store into the cutest newborn baby pants and hats EVER! You are getting a sneak peek into my next newborn session with these photos. I had been warned, from the website instructions, that up-cycling can be addictive. The results say it all... My name is Tanis and I have an up-cycling problem... and I LOVE it!
{tutorial link at the bottom!}
Be sure to check back soon to see these little bits of sweetness in action...

Get ready to fall in love all over again! This little cherub was birthed at home and welcomed by her Mama, Papa and proud Big Brother. Little Miss B was the perfect model - quiet and happy, even when wide-eyed and awake! All new parents, first-timers and repeats, become anxious at the prospect of this up-and-coming responsibility - this unknown being that will be so needy, so helpless and so demanding of your every fibre...Every parent shares the same fears and thoughts... "How are we going to do this? How will we get through this?"... but then the time arrives and life simply just moves forward.
The calmness in this home on the day of the session affirmed my belief that welcoming a new life into your world only makes it better. Yes, the laundry is over flowing. Yes, your inbox messages are piling up. Yes, you are exhausted beyond words. But life is better. Time slows. Moments linger. A cocoon wraps around your world. The seemingly important routines of a day fall away and in their place lies a tiny, new wonder.
The pure joy of holding a newborn can make my ovaries ache! But that is why I choose to photograph these lovely, new creatures, whose doe eyes, creamy skin and pouty mouths turn all who behold them to gushing, weeping babies themselves! Okay, maybe I'm the only one who cries when I get to hold a new, tiny life for the first time but I'm okay with that. I am done having babies of my own and so I cherish the time I get to spend hugging and snuggling these bundles of perfection. For a few hours, I also get to stop time and create some truly precious memories along the way. Life is just better with babies in it. And yes, I DO have the best job in the world!
Wishing endless love, joy and laughter to this new family of four.

This is my mother in 1995.
Yes, my mother celebrated St. Patrick's Day in style! She actually met every holiday and celebration with organized enthusiasm... Whole-family (30+ people!) Christmas feasts, Easter candy hunts, Spooky Halloween haunted houses and the spectacular "Everything Party", that she held in summer, where the backyard cherry tree was adorned with every piece of decoration from every single celebration we had!
Her efforts for St. Patrick's Day, however, will always stand out in my mind. Every year, Mom would be sure to have a 'proper' Irish breakfast ready for us... green oatmeal, green eggs and ham, green butter on toast, even green milk! One year, I recall hauling up a very heavy, very old recliner/rocker from the basement, at her request, simply because it was green. A very scratchy, 70's upholstered, mossy green-coloured recliner. But it was green and so served that year as the Blarney Chair from where we could make wishes. Another year when I was about 7 years old, she took me to the waterfront where I watched with scared excitement, a helicopter land. A leprechaun popped out of the copter with a large green sack and began handing out, to all watching, tiny plastic boxes containing pieces of the famous Blarney Stone.
I kept that little rock for years and years and although it isn't with me now, I still hold onto the rush of receiving a bonafide piece of luck as well the memories of the magic that Mom created for us. I do my best to pass onto my children the enthusiasm my mother imparted on me to just *simply*celebrate*life. And if you do it, do it in style.
I want to share my mother's vision of celebrating with you. Visit my Facebook Photography Page and click on the Red Bow at the top to get your free "Spring and all things Green and Lovely" Gifts for March. I hope you enjoy them. Start celebrating something today!

Oh the excitement and anticipation of a new family member! Julie's family will be welcoming there little addition in the coming weeks and I was fortunate enough to have been asked to create some lovely memories of this beautiful, blue-eyed family of three... soon to be four. Little Miss D was a ball of energy throughout most of the session, dashing about and proudly displaying her yoga poses. Too cute! Toward the end of the in-home session, as the energy tapered off, we also got some oh-so-sweet cuddle-time moments. By the way, can I just say that the light in this home session was a photographers dream! So creamy and dreamy... I look forward to returning to this light and family love when baby finally arrives.
Doesn't she make pregnancy look easy and glamourous?
Below is my favourite image from the session, so serene and calm. Here's to a serene and calm birth!
For those of you wondering just how I got started in photography, this post is for you. It may inspire you to follow a similar path or it may cause you to run the other way. If you are an aspiring photographer or just curious about my process, read on ...
In the winter of 2008, my first born child was 6 months old and had become a champion sleeper. I know right? Lucky, lucky me! But as the days of timely naps fell routinely in place, my brain was slowly turning to 'Mama Mush'. The floors were cleaned, the meals were planned, the laundry was done, the story times and gross motor activities were implemented... now what? I needed to jump-start some creative spark in me...
As a 'new mama gift-to-self', I bought my first DSLR camera; a nifty Nikon D40 with two zoom kit lenses. This was far, far from my point and shoot polaroid days! (Ah, the nostalgic "click, whir, spit' of the instant image maker, how I loved thee!) For the next 6 months, I took pictures of anything and everything. I used my most faithful subject, my son, and less faithful subject, my cat, in a variety of scenes and settings. With all that money spent and fancy camera and lenses in hand, my images were not really any better than those that my polaroid produced.
That was when I realized that I needed to take it to the next level and study. I couldn't fathom taking on a full course-load or even night courses with a baby at home and so I turned to the school of Google. I read about ISO, shutter speed, F-stops and aperture. I read about creative lighting and composition, rule of thirds and how and when to break the rule of thirds. I read about depth of field, white balance and ambient lighting. I read all that I could to help me transform my image ideas and visions into true photographic art.
Then I read something that caused me to pause. "Make money selling your photos online". Wait, what? Having just had a child and down to a single family income this piqued my interest and I found myself on Shutterstock, a world-renouned stock website. Now, for anyone interested in going this route, beware that it is NOT quick money, or even good money, unless this is your soul job and photographic purpose. But, the learning that can take place throughout the process is priceless. Reading about photography is great but without guidance or tasks or structure to follow, my personal 'studies' failed.
The very good and knowledgeable photographers on the Shutterstock forums were so helpful and provided the kicks I needed to push myself and my learning. Yup, they kicked me full of inspiration! The technical and saleable criteria for submitting to and being accepted as a contributor on Shutterstock and other stock sites can be a devastating blow to what you think you know. It is so tough that if 7 out of your 10 images don't pass muster, you application is denied and you have to wait a full 30 days until you can re-apply.
For months I posted image after image for critique on the SS forums and for months I learned and grew an amazing amount. I learned how to 'make the shot' not just 'take the shot'. I developed the ability to discern a tack sharp image from a so-so image and I learned that there was so much more to learn! I finally got the courage to apply and low and behold, "8 out of 10 images approved". I began to 'feed the beast' and was uploading 10 images a week, after spending hours setting up studio lights, detailed scenes and post-image editing. My photographic skills and technical abilities reached a transformative state but taking pictures of flowers and fruit just wasn't cutting it anymore. Although I continue to have a modest portfolio of stock images for sale that do sell, I am not a stock photographer. I will be forever thankful that I joined the stock community for the (free) education I received not to mention the wonderful and talented people I met. My heart and passion, however, lie in the face to face relationships I have with the people I photograph. The biggest lesson I learned was that I am a portrait photographer.
If you are interested in honing your photographic skills you can start with these few basic tips...
~ Find a mentor or photo buddy that will force you to practice and make you accountable for your own learning process.
~ Take the brave step of getting out of "auto" mode and learn how to use your settings in manual mode.
~ Take pictures EVERYDAY.
~ Have your images critiqued. Join an online community of photographers that will allow you to post images for critique.
~ Don't take critiquing personally! Find a learning point in every statement and question posed to you about your work.
~ Enjoy the process and you will come to find that this journey of learning is never-ending, and that is a good thing!
If you are curious to know what stock images look like, feel free to check out my little portfolio by clicking here.

Miss Stephanie was a complete natural in front of my lens! She is a smart, talented, hard-working young lady who loves a good giggle and knows how to rock a tune or two...or 50 on Shiloh, her much loved fiddle. Through several outfit changes and poses up, down and all around, Stephanie had energy and smiles to spare. It was an absolute pleasure to have her in studio. Best of luck to you and your very bright future!
Maggie came to me, in studio, so utterly prepared and ripe with belly, poise and presence. Being a textile artist, Maggie brought hand-made costumes that added a magical touch of depth and charm to her images. I just love it when clients provide that little extra touch that makes their session so very personal and unique! The 45-minute maternity session just flew by but in that time we captured so many stunning images. The full, pregnant form is one of the most amazing and lovely shapes a woman's body can take. I am so honoured every time a woman trusts me to capture and help create images that will be looked upon, years from now and cherished with wonder and amazement. I am looking forward to photographing her little bundle very soon.
It's 1976 and my Mom is having me sit still for what feels like an eternity, while she "sets" my pigtail curls that are wrapped tightly around her fingers. We are getting dressed up and I am thrilled about it! I am jealous that my older sister gets to wear the elephant-riding-a-bicycle pin. We are shuffled outside to a van. Yes, a portable portrait studio set up in a large caravan-type van. Smiles are given and memories are captured. This image is of me (yes, the pigtails) and my six older sisters. (yes, we are 7 lovely young ladies, are we not?)
I love looking at our family images from so long ago... I was only 5 when this image was taken but because I have it, I can reminisce about the goings-on of that day. I know that the elephant pin held a secret chamber filled with creme perfume. I know that my mother crafted the pink dresses my sister and I are wearing. I know that, for those few moments, the world stopped and nothing mattered but family.
Family matters. Period. So, go ahead and make some extra time for the special people in your life today!

We planned to shoot for only one or two hours... 4 hours later... sunset, cooler temperatures and mosquitos called our fun to an end. Alexia and Sarven were complete pros throughout the entire photo shoot. Their energy and enthusiasm (not to mention props and well coordinated outfits!) made this a photographer's dream session. The fact that they entertained my "floating on love" concept shot and dug into it with full gusto is enough for me to put them in my 'FCF Club' (Favourite Clients Forever!). Congratulations to both of you!
Smoldering love... no?
How sweet it is to see love like yours!
Floating on love...Ahhhhh....
